Description

Tamar Valley Crematorium on the north edge of Plymouth opened in July 2026, a mature Roborough Estate woodland plantation (beech/hemlock) abutting open fields, with dramatic views westwards into Cornwall.

Landscape Visual Impact assessment proved the suitability of the location, General Arrangement ensures hearse and mourners’ arrival & exit schedules are separated spatially, with the vehicular & pedestrian routes threaded between existing trees (raised above root systems to avoid compaction), with parking organised in an attractive informal loose spatial arrangement, defined by pure holly evergreen clipped hedging, supplying a fitting gravitas to a funeral all year.

Garden of Remembrance is a formal lawn with ornamental planting through which mourners exit, Garden of Reflection opposite is a calm woodland with views westward from inside the Chapel towards Cornwall. A Drakes Leat Walk winds through the woodland for mindful contemplation.
Shortlisted for the AJ Architecture Ward (Community & Faith Projects).
