Description

The new UK Police Memorial, opened on 28th July 2021 by Prince Charles is a memorial gathering space and context for the new memorial by Walter Jack Studios; this circular earthwork in the wooded area of the National Memorial Arboretum imparts a sense of enclosure and peace, a bold simple ring of trees with clipped hedge, with outer meadow and inner lawn, to accommodate at least 1,500 people for ceremonies and services. We have created a new damp meadow through which visitors pass and clothed the outer bank in wild flowers to improve biodiversity – a contrast to the neatly mown lawn inside the memorial space which, in the busy arboretum, provides an intimate and serene place for the bereaved to reflect and hopefully grow stronger.
